Patrol Leaders are the backbone of the troop. They lead by example, motivate their patrol, and represent their patrol at the Patrol Leaders' Council. BSA offers multiple training opportunities for patrol leaders.
Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
A one-day training event for newly elected Scout leaders. Covers leadership concepts, communication, and practical patrol leadership skills. Required for youth in formal positions of responsibility.
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
A week-long high adventure and leadership course offered by the Seneca Waterways Council. One of the premier youth leadership development experiences in scouting.
Junior Leader Training (JLT)
Provides patrol leaders with the skills and tools they need to be effective youth leaders. Contact the Scoutmaster for upcoming sessions.
PLC Meetings
Monthly Patrol Leaders' Council meetings are where patrol leaders plan the troop program, discuss upcoming events, and solve problems together. All patrol leaders are expected to attend.
