Positions of Responsibility

BSA requires scouts to hold a position of responsibility for a specified time as part of Star, Life, and Eagle rank requirements. These positions develop genuine leadership skills and prepare scouts for adult leadership roles.

Senior Patrol Leader
Elected by troop members. The most senior youth position. Leads all troop meetings, events, and the Patrol Leaders' Council.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Appointed by the SPL with SM approval. Helps lead the troop and assumes SPL duties in their absence.
Patrol Leader
Elected by patrol members. Leads the patrol at all activities and represents them at the PLC.
Assistant Patrol Leader
Appointed by the PL. Helps lead the patrol and serves in the PL's absence.
Troop Guide
An experienced scout assigned to work with new scouts, helping them adjust to troop life and earn their early ranks.
Order of the Arrow Rep
Serves as the liaison between the troop and the lodge, promoting OA activities and camping to troop members.
Quartermaster
Maintains, stores, and distributes troop equipment. Keeps equipment inventory current and ensures gear is in good repair.
Scribe
Keeps minutes of PLC meetings and handles written correspondence for the troop leadership.
Historian
Collects and maintains troop memorabilia, historical records, photographs, and other materials preserving the troop's history.
Librarian
Maintains the troop library of merit badge pamphlets and other scouting resources.
Chaplain Aide
Assists the unit chaplain; helps promote religious emblems programs and ensures spiritual fitness is part of the program.
Den Chief / Webmaster
Serves as a youth leader for a Cub Scout den OR maintains the troop website, helping recruit future Scouts.
