BSA troops are boy-led organizations. Youth members elect their leaders and run their own program, with adult supervision and guidance. This structure develops real leadership skills that last a lifetime.
Youth Leadership
Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)
Elected by scouts; the highest youth position. Leads troop meetings, PLCs, and all scout-run activities.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader
Assists the SPL and assumes leadership in the SPL's absence.
Patrol Leaders
Elected by patrol members; leads their patrol at meetings and campouts.
Troop Quartermaster
Manages troop equipment and ensures all gear is maintained and accounted for.
Troop Scribe
Keeps minutes of PLC meetings and handles troop correspondence.
Adult Leadership
Scoutmaster
Provides program vision and adult guidance. Mentors scouts toward advancement and character development.
Assistant Scoutmasters
Support the Scoutmaster and work directly with patrols during meetings and campouts.
Committee Chair
Leads the troop committee; oversees administrative and financial functions.
Troop Committee Members
Parents and community volunteers supporting finance, advancement, equipment, and more.
Chartered Organization Rep
Represents Third Presbyterian Church on the troop committee.
